Technical Animator
Location: Remote, preferred UTC +-3
Employment type: Full-time
About the Role
We’re looking for a Technical Animator who loves bringing gameplay to life through motion.
You’ll work at the intersection of animation and engineering — ensuring our characters move fluidly, respond accurately, and look amazing in real time. You’ll help design rigs, refine animation blueprints, and streamline the pipeline between Maya and Unreal Engine 5.If you’re passionate about responsive character animation and enjoy building tools that make animators faster, this role is for you.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain character rigs in Maya that are clean, efficient, and animator-friendly.
- Set up and refine Animation Blueprints, State Machines, and Control Rigs in Unreal Engine 5.
- Ensure seamless import/export pipelines between Maya and Unreal (naming conventions, skeleton compatibility, animation retargeting).
- Collaborate with animators and designers to develop responsive gameplay animations that feel weighty and reactive.
- Implement and optimize runtime systems such as IK, aim offsets, and blend spaces for fluid character control.
- Work with programmers to integrate animations into gameplay and debug technical animation issues.
- Automate and improve workflows using Python, MEL, or Blueprint scripting.
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong understanding of Unreal Engine 5 animation systems (Control Rig, Animation Blueprints, Sequencer, IK).
- Solid knowledge of Maya rigging and animation tools — capable of building custom rigs and improving existing ones.
- Experience with real-time animation optimization and root motion setups.
- Comfortable scripting in Python or MEL for pipeline automation.
- Understanding of gameplay animation principles (timing, anticipation, readability, responsiveness).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a collaborative mindset.
Nice-to-Have
- Experience creating or tuning procedural animation (e.g., runtime IK, additive layers).
- Knowledge of physics-based animation systems or ragdoll setups.
- Experience with facial animation, MetaHumans, or ARKit.
- Interest in animation systems design — helping shape how gameplay and animation blend together.
Why Join Us
- An environment that values creativity, iteration, and ownership.
- Flexible work hours and remote-first setup.
- Collaborate with other studios on cutting-edge Unreal Engine projects.
- Office setup bonus to make your home workspace more comfortable.
- Salary range: ~30–50k EUR, depending on location and experience.
- Mentorship from developers with 10+ years of game development experience.
